But add the melted dark chocolate marbled through the cake and you have something quite magnificent.
With a smattering of walnuts and nutmeg, this gorgeous cake is moist and lush and the flavours are perfectly balanced.
What’s more, it’s surprisingly easy to make. The cake probably looks a little fancier than it is thanks to the striking swirling marble effect. Just be careful not to over-stir your mixture when you are marbling through the chocolate.
