This recipe pleases those with a sweet tooth, as well as those with more savory palettes – making it just perfect for gifts. Make as smaller loaves, pop in a cellophane gift bag with a bow and you’re done (and much better than giving a freaky garden gnome with dead eyes like the one in the photo).

Ingredients
- ½ cup unbleached white flour
- ¼ cup whole wheat flour
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup slightly packed light brown sugar
- ½ tsp cardamom
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp cayenne
- 1½ cups dates - quartered
- ¾ cup golden figs - diced large
- ⅔ c. dried cranberries
- ⅔ c. dried apricots - diced large
- 1¾ walnut halves
- 1½ cups pecans
- ¼ cup pine nuts
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 3 large eggs
